Following a 1-2-1 consultation with an ADT home security consultant, we’ll recommend a number of security devices to cover key areas inside and outside the home, ensuring you have the right level of protection. These could include

Wireless door contacts: for doors that you frequently use to enter and leave the property
PIR motion sensors: these are pet-friendly up to a weight of 35kg
Shock sensors: typically placed on windows as an alternative to PIR sensors. Ideal for windows above flat roofs or properties with large pets
Dualtec sensors: typically used in colder environments e.g., garages

Keyholders

As the account holder, you’re the primary keyholder. This means we’ll contact you first when your burglar alarm is activated.

You’ll also nominate at least one secondary keyholder. This should be a neighbour or trusted friend, as this is the person we’ll contact if you’re unavailable. You can add multiple keyholders to your system through the MyADT app.

Why are burglar alarms worth it?

According to data taken from the CSEW (Crime Survey for England and Wales 2019-2020) the average cost of a domestic burglary is over £1,000. In addition to the cost, there is also the disruption and emotional damage that is often caused to a household in the aftermath of a domestic burglary.

How do burglar alarms work?

Burglar alarm systems use a variety of sensors and contacts to detect movement inside a property. This also includes the opening of doors or windows.

Because our door contacts are wireless, the intruder alarm signal is passed along to the hub and your ADT Smart Services app, without the need for cumbersome wires around your home.

How much do burglar alarms cost?

Burglar alarms can range in cost, from simple DIY and “bells only” alarms, to fully integrated and professionally monitored security systems that link through to the police and private security responders. We believe that a monitored intruder alarm is at the heart of a good home security setup; that’s why we only offer monitored systems, so it’s never ignored.

How much do burglar alarms cost to run?

ADT burglar alarm systems are economical to run, due to many of the components being wireless and therefore battery-powered. The alarm panel requires access to a three-pin plug, as do any camera devices excluding the video doorbell, which is also wireless.

Do burglar alarms deter burglars?

Burglars typically want to make a quick entry and exit from a property without being noticed. ADT has a longstanding history in the UK, meaning most opportunistic thieves will be aware that with the visible presence of the ADT bell box, your home security system is professionally monitored, ensuring a swift response.

Can I purchase a burglar alarm system without the monthly monitoring costs?

We believe that a monitored intruder alarm is at the heart of a good home security system. That’s why we only offer monitored systems, because when your alarm is monitored, it’s never ignored.

Is the panel portable, or do I need to have it fixed to the wall?

Our sleek alarm panel is designed to match the aesthetics of your home with no need for complicated cabling. A single, easily hidden wire runs to a domestic plug socket, meaning you can choose to mount it to a wall, or have it freestanding on a table or sideboard.

Because your panel is used to set and unset your alarm, we recommend you place it near your front door. For added flexibility, you can also pair your master panel with up to three remotes (smaller versions of the main panel), allowing you to control your alarm in additional areas like a bedroom or home office.

Why is the bell box not equipped with an external siren?

External sirens are designed to let those nearby know that a home may be under threat (unfortunately, these signals can sometimes be ignored). This function is irrelevant for anyone with an ADT burglar alarm, because our monitoring centre will already have been alerted, ensuring a swift response.

That’s why we place our siren inside the home, where it can do a better job of disorientating any intruder who may have gained access. That said, some customers do feel more comfortable having an external sounding bell box; this can be added to your system if requested.

Are both keyholder and police response available?

You can opt for a range of different response options, including keyholder response, police response and private security response.

If you opt for police response, you will receive a URN (unique reference number), which will also be lodged with your local police force. In the event of an alarm activation, our alarm receiving centre will inform you and the police.
